Ayurveda, an ancient system of medicine, emphasizes the principle that prevention is better than cure. One key aspect of this is Dinacharya, or a daily routine, which, when followed diligently, can bring harmony and balance to your life. 1. Waking Up Before Sunrise

The Ayurvedic texts suggest waking up during the Brahma muhurta, approximately one and a half hours before sunrise. This period is believed to be spiritually and physically nourishing. It's a time of quietude, excellent for meditation, yoga, and setting a positive tone for the day.


2. Tongue Scraping

Upon rising, Ayurveda recommends a unique oral hygiene practice - tongue scraping. This removes overnight accumulations of toxins (known as "ama") on your tongue. A tongue scraper, preferably copper or stainless steel, can be gently glided over the tongue from back to front to perform this cleansing action.


3. Oil Pulling

Oil pulling or "Kavala" is another detoxifying practice. Swish a tablespoon of sesame or coconut oil in your mouth for about 10-15 minutes, then spit it out. Be sure not to swallow it as it's full of the toxins extracted from your gums and teeth. This practice is lauded for improving oral health and enhancing taste sensitivity.


4. Yoga and Meditation

Starting your day with yoga and meditation helps increase flexibility, boosts your mood, and promotes a sense of peace. Asanas like Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutations) are excellent for warming up the body. Meditation during the calm, early hours helps connect you to your inner self, promoting focus and clarity.


5. Ayurvedic Breakfast

Break your fast with a nutritious, Ayurvedic breakfast tailored to your dosha. Vata types benefit from warm, grounding foods like cooked oats; Pitta types do well with cooling and mild foods like a cucumber salad; and Kapha types need light and stimulating foods like a green smoothie.
